One Christmas, Oli Spleen (The Flesh Happening, Pink Narcissus, Fag Machine) who might be the greatest rock star you’ve never heard of, was invited by fiercely independent Cooking Vinyl signing Benbo to join him in one of 52 attempted collaborations for 2013. He dug out an old lyric called 'No Room At The Minge' and emailed it over.

Three days later, the clanging chimes of doom were ringing out from Benbo's Dark Studios - an entire production was in swing. Film director Nichola Bruce, whose award-winning feature Moonbug was playing at the NASA Space Center in Houston at the time, was laying down accordion, and sheet music was being prepared for Lucy Ward collaborator IzzI Cooper to record cello.

Grand and spacious, Benbo's production has opened the space for Spleen to narrate his heterosexual love song with unusual tenderness. A delicate, surprising departure that nods overtly to his hero Jacques Brel and recalls the sonic ambition of Benbo's arrangements for The Black Tulips, 'A Carol For Joseph' might just be touching enough to join oddities like 'Stop The Cavalry' in the Christmas canon.
